Puzzle #19 answer: PLAY BALL

It was a semi-SAD meta, I guess! Each of the first five words of the ridiculous themer is a play (you could make an argument for Rent and Cats both being musicals, which is more of a subcategory; the constructor in me was sad to note there were so many more one-word musicals than one-word plays!), and the second word is a type of ball (I am of the goof-cheese hybrid variety).

Put them together, and what do you have? PLAY BALL, the eight-letter, two-word phrase we were looking for. Go Cubbies (though we've lost too many games so far we should've won).
